Unformatted text preview: Cong Hui MGT409-005 Southwest Airlines Case Analysis Southwest Airlines was founded in 1967 by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher. It entered in the business due to the increasing capacity of flights in Texas. In its early years, Southwest Airlines focused on business taken place in 3 major cities in Texas, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. Its first flight flew on June 18, 1971. Since then, due to their mature operation strategy and well known business culture, Southwest has expanded the business rapidly. By mid-2001, Southwests operation had grown to encompass 32500 employees, operating a total of 360 Boeing 737 aircraft connecting 58 airports with 2650 flights per day. The terrorism incident happened on Sep 11, 2001 brought significant to the whole airline industry. Though Southwest Airline reacted rapidly had made a good control within the company shortly after the event, it inevitably faced some challenges which are not easy to solve.
