4/25/11 Introduction to Eastern Religions: A Perspective beyond the Borders Dr. Hemchand Gossai Dr. Gossai began his speech by stating the fact that most Americans and even other western countries often just brush off the topic of the eastern religions. He claims society wants nothing to do with it, in part because humans do not take great care for subjects that do not involve them or affect their daily lives. Also, often people do not accept other people and things that are different than them. This is just natural, human nature, not saying that it is right. This world is too divided and eastern religion just another aspect this world is divided upon. Gossai stated that he would speak, on that night, about Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. He pointed out that a lot of people see Islam as a western religion. Gossai says this is wrong and that people should really consider Islam to be an eastern religion. Population and practice are the elements that he persuades the audience to base this truth on.
