The purpose of this experiment was to perform qualitative analysis on various mixtures of cations with anions to determine if a reaction occurred and if so if there was a precipitate that came out of the reaction. Other tests on cations and anions were also performed, and this information was to be used to identify an unknown but due to time constraints the unknown was not tested. This lab did not contain any numerical data, however it required very precise observations to be taken of each reaction including color changes, formation of a precipitate, and a description of the precipitate formed. Experimental Procedure Dillon,Stephanie “Qualitative Analysis: Cations and Anions” Chemistry 1051L Online Manual 03/22/11 03/15/11 http://www.chem.fsu.edu/chemlab/chm1051lmanual/cations/proce dure.html Changes: Due to time constraints in lab we were instructed to not perform part 4 and 6 of the experiment. Part 4 was the vaporization of Sodium Nitrate under the hood and part 6 was the identification of the unknown. Part 1
