Clint Deskins In today’s society any reasonable person knows that the Sun is the center of the universe, or that gravity is the force that keeps us from floating off into space. However, prior to the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment, if you would say these things people would think you were crazy and would probably laugh at you. They would say that any person in their right mind knows that the Earth is the center of the universe. People prior to the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment were not thinkers, they believed that God was the force behind everything that happened on Earth and that the monarch was the absolute ruler and that the individual was unimportant compared to the ruler. When the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment arose people began to change their aspects of life and of the universe. People began to use reason and more logical thinking, today this period is known as the Enlightenment or the Age of Reason. During this period people’s aspects of life change, and there is more of a scientific, intellectual, and philosophical approach to life. During the Enlightenment there were many philosophers and scientist who brought about change to the world and influenced the change in people’s views. These philosophers brought about new scientific and political reasoning. The ideas, methods, views, and discoveries brought about by some of these philosophers changed the world and how it was viewed. This paper is going to discuss some of the contributions of scientists and philosophers during these periods. It will also discuss political and cultural changes during the Enlightenment. During the Scientific Revolution discoveries were made by scientist that contributed to the knowledge of today’s people and changed the world in which people lived in. These scientists included: Nicolaus Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Johannes Kepler,

Galileo Galilei, and Isaac Newton. Some of these names may sound familiar to some people while others do not. However, each have made significant discoveries in the field of science, mostly in the specific area of astronomy.
