Clint DeskinsIn today’s society any reasonable person knows that the Sun is the center of theuniverse, or that gravity is the force that keeps us from floating off into space. However, prior to the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment, if you would say these thingspeople would think you were crazy and would probably laugh at you. They would saythat any person in their right mind knows that the Earth is the center of the universe.People prior to the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment were not thinkers, theybelieved that God was the force behind everything that happened on Earth and that themonarch was the absolute ruler and that the individual was unimportant compared tothe ruler. When the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment arose people began tochange their aspects of life and of the universe. People began to use reason and morelogical thinking, today this period is known as the Enlightenment or the Age of Reason.During this period people’s aspects of life change, and there is more of a scientific, intellectual, and philosophical approach to life. During the Enlightenment there weremany philosophers and scientist who brought about change to the world and influencedthe change in people’s views. These philosophers brought about new scientific andpolitical reasoning. The ideas, methods, views, and discoveries brought about by someof these philosophers changed the world and how it was viewed. This paper is going todiscuss some of the contributions of scientists and philosophers during these periods. Itwill also discuss political and cultural changes during the Enlightenment.During the Scientific Revolution discoveries were made by scientist thatcontributed to the knowledge of today’s people and changed the world in which peoplelived in. These scientists included: Nicolaus Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Johannes Kepler,
Galileo Galilei, and Isaac Newton. Some of these names may sound familiar to somepeople while others do not. However, each have made significant discoveries in thefield of science, mostly in the specific area of astronomy. As this paper goes on it willdiscuss in further detail the contributions made by these scientists in the scientific filed.
