Matt Deis Mr. McNerney PA English 9/24/09 Pg. 7 “{But know why they’re nicer?} {Why?} I asked. {So you’ll obey all the rules they don’t have,} he replied.” Once I read this I automatically connected the idea of the authors son to the different strategies of raising a child. I have had many different friends growing up and as I got to know them I also got to know their parents. It was fairly easy to see that each and every family raised their children in different ways. Some were very strict, some were very laid back and some were kind of in the middle. With this now being senior year, I am also able to see how these kids turned out, at least up until now. One thing that I have noticed is that the parents were extremely strict were only able to hold onto their control over their kids for so long. And once their kids finally broke free, they went wild. Yet, the children of those parents who gave their kids the freedom they deserved yet maintained a strong sense of authority, were able to ease into the responsibilities of being a teenager and were able to make more responsible decisions on their own.
