Analysis & Comparison of Competitors’ Websites: Orkin Pest Control & Northwest Exterminating 2. Executive Summary Our team’s research and report is focused on the websites of two competing companies in the pest extermination business: Orkin Pest Control and Northwest Exterminating. Orkin, an Atlanta based company, has their website updated frequently with many user-friendly links to in depth information on their homepage. Orkin’s entire site is available in Spanish and English, but not available in any language for a mobile device. Additionally, the information contained deeper in their site is relevant, but extremely disorganized, leaving the user feeling confused and overwhelmed. Northwest Exterminating is a smaller, Marietta based, exterminating company that uses their website to give customers ease of access to information regarding pests, contacting the company, and links to social media. Their frequently asked questions are efficiently laid out with detailed information available through additional links. Northwest’s site, however, has similar issues to Orkin. It is unavailable on a mobile device, is entirely unavailable in Spanish, and makes searching for information difficult without a search box. 3. Companies

Analysis & Comparison of Competitors’ Websites: Orkin Pest Control & Northwest Exterminating Orkin Pest Control, www.orkin.com , and Northwest Exterminating, www.callnorthwest.com , are competing pest control, treatment, and extermination companies headquartered in and operating out of Atlanta and Marietta, respectively. Both companies offer services to control and remove common and not so common pests, such as: bed bugs, cockroaches, termites, rodents, spiders, and other wildlife. Orkin and Northwest both offer residential and commercial preventative and extermination services. In most cases, their services include a home or business inspection and treatment plan tailored to target the specific type of infestation. Orkin is a for-profit company founded in 1901 that currently employs nearly 8,000 people in over 400 locations (About Orkin). Orkin is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rollins Inc. and is publicly traded (About Orkin). Northwest is a privately held company, founded in 1951, that has grown from a family of two to over 300 team members and 13 service centers in Georgia (History: Atlanta Pest Control). Orkin and Northwest have had websites for at least 10 years. Orkin’s first website, according the Wayback Machine, was launched in 1996--see Appendix 1 and 2 for comparison screen shots (Ask Orkin). It was a very basic site with contact information, limited text, and low resolution pictures which were needed before high speed Internet access. Northwest’s first recorded site from the Wayback Machine was in 2001--see Appendix 3 and 4 for comparison
