MoTown- Sky and the Family Stone led to the transformation of R and B in the late 1960’s. Norman Whitfield first successful song- Ain’t too proud to beg by the Temptations. Brought psychedelic sound- the new wave to MoTown Puzzle People by Temptations 1990 by the Temptations - used rhythm machines and drum loops. Grapevine- whitfield and strong wrote the song. Smokey robinson recorded it first followed by marvin gaye. Gladys knight and the pips version was released before marvin gayes. Whitfield’s song writing method- uriel jones rides a cymbal, adding a bass drum accent, each musician is added individually. Glyn Johns- known for clean, natural sounding music. First break out- CHILDREN OF THE FUTURE- STEVE MILLER BAND Best Album- ZEPPELIN 1 by LED ZEPPELIN Was only interested in albums, not singles Most influential rock album- the Who’s “Who’s Next” Colombia and use of ambience- they used the high ceilings of the church and also the small choir room upstairs for ambience. They used the use of stairwells for ambience in the office
