Astronomers have many different types of telescopes at their disposal to observe the universe in all parts of electromagnetic spectrum. Some telescopes are ground-based; others are space-based: Arecibo Spitzer Hubble Keck Compton Parallax and Depth Perception Parallax is any alteration in the apparent position of an object due to a change in the position of the observer. A simple demonstration of this effect can be seen by extending your thumb at arm’s length. Then close one eye at a time and note how your thumb appears to jump left and right relative to the background. Now move your thumb closer and note how the jump is greater.
