McKinney1 Grace McKinney Dr. Raser EN 112 6 October 2017 Theme: Glass Menagerie In the play “The Glass Menagerie,” written by Tennessee Williams, there are many different themes readers and viewers can see. One theme in the play is that we cannot escape reality and that reality is sometimes hard to accept. This theme is shown through Laura living in her delicate glass animal world, through Tom going out getting drunk and fantasizing about movies and literature, and through Amanda imagining her life is perfect instead of facing what her life is really like. Laura is the quietest character who always keeps to herself. This gives her so much time to remines and fantasize about what her life could or should be like. She does recognize her sets backs which are her anxiety and handicapped problems, but she is also missing a lot. One thing she longs for, but cannot get out of the real world and her surroundings, is comfort, which she finds in her glass menagerie. She has a lot in common with her glass zoo in that they are both
