Legal 450 Climate change has become one of the most controversial, publicized and pressing issues of the past decade. The burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, and the deforestation of tropical forests are the dominant factors contributing to climate change. As a result of these actions the ozone has begun to deteriorate leading to a permanent change in Earth’s climate. Internationally, nationally, and at a local level, various pieces of legislation have been proposed and implemented to help slow climate change. At a local level is where various cities and towns come in. With such a dense population, cities leave a huge carbon footprint. A lot has been done in order for cities to become more sustainable and help reduce the amount of waste they exert. Sustainable development, according to the Brundtland Report is “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It contains two key concepts: the concept of needs, in particular the essential needs of the world’s poor, to which overriding priority should be given; and the idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organization on the environment’s ability to meet present and suture needs”. Sustainable living and development does not differentiate between different countries, in fact it sees the world as one unit connected in space and time. That means things done in certain areas of the world can affect other areas, for example spraying pesticides in one country can affect another countries food sources, half way around the world. Connected in time means that decisions on policies we make today will impact everyone in the future. Therefore when it comes to sustainable development,
