IST 195 – Student Guide for Laboratory Session Student Handout – IST 195 Lab Session 3 Title of lab: Creating Presentation with Microsoft Excel 2010. Learning goal: Students will obtain the basic skills necessary to create an Excel spreadsheet containing formulas and simple calculations. The spreadsheet will use Excel features, which support text and numeric cell content placement. Students will understand Excel’s pattern recognition feature using the AUTO-FILL technique. Built-in functions are used to create SUMS, AVERAGES, and the LOGICAL FUNCTION IF/THEN. Students will then chart their results and include the chart in their worksheet. The advanced lab will include conditional formatting of cells in the worksheet. General instructions: Please pay careful attention to your lab instructor’s description of this lab session. Make sure to take notes on any key pieces of information (such as URLs) that you will need to complete the lab. Note that the basic assignment for achieving a B-level grade requires submitting the following electronic file to your iLMS assignment drop box by the end of the session: IST195Lab3[YourNetID].xlsx . The spreadsheet will include the Budget as shown in their lab instruction guide. The Budget will be on a worksheet named FallBudget. The Excel spreadsheet will include a chart of monthly and total expenses on the same worksheet as the budget. The chart should resemble the sample included in the guide. To achieve an A-level grade on the lab, you will additionally have to include the following in your electronic submission: The worksheet must contain a new cell with conditional formatting. To complete the lab, please follow these steps: Excel 2010 Basics: Text, Functions, and Charts Activities: Basic Lab: Part I: Creating Spreadsheets and Entering Text and Numbers Part II: Calculations, Formulas, and Functions Part III: Formatting Cell Contents Part IV: Creating Charts using Excel Advanced Lab: Part-V: Conditional Formatting

Open Excel by clicking the Start menu, selecting All Programs , then Microsoft Office , and Microsoft Office Excel 2010 . 2. Click the File Tab, select Save, and save the empty spreadsheet to “My Documents”. The workbook name should be “IST195Lab3[YourNetID]” .
