Include in your discussion information on how osteoporosis develops; how age, sex, hormones, and genetics affect it; how activity affects it; and what dietary interventions can help prevent or treat osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease that affects millions of people world-wide. Osteoporosis is defined as the thinning of the bone tissue and not enough formation of new bone. To combat Osteoporosis one should take in enough calcium and phosphorous through diet. Vitamin D is another nutrient that is needed as it helps the body absorb calcium to be uptake and used by the body for bone formation (Rolfes). When a person becomes middle aged calcium and phosphate are reabsorbed from the bones, which is why Osteoporosis affects middle aged adults. Women are especially prone to osteoporosis because after menopause women have a drop in estrogen and
