What factors influence the body's use of glucose during physical activity? How? 2. Discuss the use of protein, fat, and carbohydrate as fuels during low, moderate, and intense exercise. Carbohydrates are the body’s main source of energy. The body breaks down carbohydrates into mono and disaccharides which the body can use as energy. One of the major saccharides the body uses as energy is glucose. The body uses glucose via aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Via the phosphate system the body uses ATP built up in the muscles, and then utilizes creatine phosphate until it is depleted (Rolfes). This process occurs when short burst energy is needed. When physical activity increases the body uses glucose stored in the body and when the body glucose stores are depleted the body will access the fat stores and covert them to glucose. During physical exercise the body’s level of insulin drops
