The human body is adept at maintaining homeostasis. One good example of this is displayed when one analyzes how the body maintains blood glucose levels. When one eats the body breaks down food into their natural components one being glucose, which can be used by the body for energy. An overload of glucose in the body is dangerous as it can lead to blindness and a shutdown of metabolic processes and systems. Insulin is an important hormone produced by the beta cells of the Isle of Langerhans, which is located in the pancreas.
