Genesis Hernandez Chem-125 Lab Report: Shifty Equilibria In this lab, we studied the reactions of the five transition metal ions by testing them with NaOH, NH 3 , and a sulfide solution to determine what precipitate formed. After completing the first part of the lab and making careful observations, we then tested our knowledge of equilibria to create a theme that would allow us to separate a mixture of the five cations. In the first part of the lab, we ran several tests to observe different properties of the five cations. By creating several charts, my partners and I managed to determine which cations formed precipitates according to each test. From those observations, I then made a scheme to separate a mixture of the five cations according to which performed precipitates and which didn't. There were many different ways of going about when it came to creating a plan to separate the five cations, but mine luckily worked. I started with the five cation mixture and added ten drops of NH 3
