Genesis Hernandez September 22, 2011 WMST 130 Cohen/Harriford "Feminism, Patriarchy and Social Change" The goal that every feminist has in mind is typically a world in which women are politically, socially and economically equal to men. While there is a whole spectrum feminism, and others are considered more radical than others, the goal of equality and change is a commonality among feminists. Judith Bennet wrote an article called, "History Matters" and in it she discusses the importance of understanding the historical context of patriarchy and the concept of continuity and what it does in relation to how we view "change" in history. Kimberlé Crenshaw wrote an article called, "The Intersection of Race and Gender" and in it she explores the concept of intersectionality, and how it contributes and hinders the feminist movement. Although both these women had different ideals, there was still a common belief in both articles and that was that change was possible for women and that it could indeed occur, given that we follow a few steps. In Bennett's "History Matters," she tries to explain and define what patriarchy is. She
