Perceptual Constancy Our ability to perceive objects as remaining the same, in spite of changes Shape constancy: our ability to know that an object has the same shape even when the imagine on the retina changes (different angles) Color constancy: our ability to perceive an object has having relatively the same color in spite of lighting changes (by changing lighting conditions the reflected changed Lightnessconstancy: our ability to perceive a black or white or grey surface in spite of ch anges in illumination when light hitswhite is reflects 90% of light back. Black reflects 5-10% of light Relative luminance: according to the book, it explain color and light constancy (however there are other explanations). When the brain observaes an object it takes into considerati on the amount of light that is being reflected off relative to other objects in the surround.
