In this course we will not talk about visceroreceptors which give us information about blood pressure, blood pH, etc. NPB 101 talks about these sorts of sensory systems extensively. This process is called Transduction Sensory receptor cells have mechanisms which act either directly or indirectly (through 2 nd messengers) to either open or close ion channels. What is the general effect of either opening or closing ion channels? Change in voltage Receptor potentials are very similar to post-synaptic potentials. How are they generated?
