Course Syllabus EMA 4223 Mechanical Behavior of Materials Section 0593, Spring 2011 1. Catalog Description – Plastic deformation and fracture of metals and alloys, ceramics, and polymers. 2. Pre-requisites and Co-requisites – EGM 3520 Mechanics of Materials 3. Course Objectives - This is a junior level course in Materials Science and Engineering. The specific objectives are to introduce the student to analysis and problem solving techniques for materials undergoing mechanical loading. This will be demonstrated for a wide variety of materials including metals, ceramics and polymers. 4. Contribution of course to meeting the professional component - This is a 3-credit course. 5. Relationship of course to program outcomes - This course addresses the following MSE Program outcomes (note: Number refer to the list of MSE Program outcomes): (4) Ability to apply and integrate knowledge of structure, properties, processing, and performance to solve materials selection and design problems within realistic constraints 6.
