It can make students lazy and their smarts will bail them out in a pinch. Making college students to adopt a "growth mindset," in regard to not only their intelligence but also their emotions. Praising conveys the idea that intelligence is a fixed, innate quality, and therefore that they ultimately don't have much control over their academic successes and failures. how beliefs about intelligence lead students to choose particular learning goals or to react emotionally to failures and setbacks.
