When we talk about the inpatient and outpatient hospital services are two very different processes these are used in the medical facilities or practices at different timing. One of the biggest differences between the inpatient and outpatient hospital services is the types of services that they can provide the coding, and billing process. When we talk about the inpatient care patients are essentially are to be admitted into the hospital or have to stay in the hospital overnight. With inpatient care can be given to patients through skilled nursing facilities. This is so the patient can receive care by licensed nurse under the direction of a physician. With outpatient care this can be provided in a hospital emergency room or department. The services that are provided are all types of health care services that don’t require the patient to stay

One of the services that can be classified as outpatient is same day surgery where the patient has the surgery and not has to stay in the hospital overnight. With inpatient coding the coding gets done as soon as the patient is discharged from the hospital. When we are talking about outpatient coding is done during the patients visit before the patient is done with the whole process and is discharged. Also another difference with inpatient and outpatient coding is that with inpatient coding we use ICD nine codes with all the procedures that the patient had done or went through.
