AGEC 7100, Homework, Page 1 AGEC 7100. Homework 2. 1) For the problem defined below: Minimize: C = X1 + 4X2 subject to: X1 + 2X2 8 3 X1 + X2 12 a) Use the simplex algorithm with the artificial variable technique to solve it. From the final tableau, specify the answers of the primal. b) Write out, in equation form, the dual of the problem. Using the final tableau from a) above, provide the answers to the dual. c) Now solve both the primal and the dual of this problem using software of your choice and check the computer answers against a) and b) above. 2) Look at the information below: Maximize Z = X1 + 7X2 + 2X3 S.T. X1 + 2X2 + X3 10 3X1 + 4X2 + X3 21 X2 7 X1, X2 0, X3 -5 Reformulate this problem into a problem that can be solved using the Simplex algorithm. Solve this problem (either by hand or using a computer) and report on the values of Z, X1, X2, and X3. (Be sure to report on the original variables, not the redefined values.)

Change the problem to account for this new information and rerun it. Did the solution change? Why or why not? b) The producer also discovers that he can rent additional cropland at $40 an acre. Add an activity to this problem to incorporate this new information and resolve the problem. Did the solution change? Why or why not?...
