Aero 310 - Lecture May 4, 2011 World War Two End of WW1, Pre WW2 - 29 million died - The war to end all wars - Winners: United States and Japan Neither country had gene pool torn Surged in military improvement - The Treaty of Versailles Ended WW1 Allies won war, but lost peace Unconditional Surrender *Germans are looking to get even - Hitler Sought to save Germany from humility, and Germans followed him - September 1939 Germany invades Poland and wins in 18 days - France and England declare war against Germany Change in command Chamberlin Churchill - Spring of 1940 Germany no negotiations with England Germany invades Belgium and France - Mid Summer 1940 Germany owns France - England 350,000 troops, which they use later - Fall 1940 Germany begins invasion with England, launches air force bombs air force gain air superiority Called Battle of Britain England wins, hands down - US Military: 800 aircraft, 26,000 aviation personnel - Britain: 1,900 airplanes, 2 bombers: 1 fighter - Germany: 4100 airplanes, 500,000 aviation personnel
