Treatment in Juvenile Justice Treatment can occur at all major stages (diversion, detention, probation, corrections, aftercare). The most sustained and intensive interventions occur within training schools. “Nothing Works” myth hurt legitimacy but treatment has regained its stature.

Assessment and Classification Proper assessment and classification is of most paramount importance. Psychiatric classifications schemes prevailed from the 1940’s through the 1970’s. Public health models (identifying risk factors and needs) prevail today. More holistic. Community Assessment Centers. Provide immediate, comprehensive assessment and coordinate and streamline service delivery. Problems with assessment and classification. Diagnoses or classifications often tailored to suit available treatments. Alternative is treatment/ diagnostic mismatch.
