Do you believe “Sacred Texts” have a large influence on your beliefs or are they merely a reference or written guideline for what you should know? 2. If born in a different country with different sacred texts and beliefs, would you feel differently about the treatment of woman, or accept it? The Bible is a collection of books written in the ancient times by Hebrews The books were not written all at one time surrounding the events that happened, the stories were passed orally through stories, then steadily written down. There are three sections of the Bible, The Old Testament (with 39 books), making up the sacred texts of Judaism, New Testament (with 27 books accepted by Christians) and the Apocrypha (with 14 books which is between the other two) Most of the sacred texts were in Hebrew and Greek first It was written mainly during the period of the Roman Empire (37­4 B.C.) The Qur’an is one of the youngest teachings of monotheistic belief (Belief in one God) The Qur’an is said to be written by Mohammed and sent by the Angel Gabriel as its messenger, the Qur’an is said to be the direct word of God The book consists of 114 chapters called Suras and divided into verses called ayahs It was written between c. 610 and 632 Tao Te Ching is the Sacred text for some eastern countries like some eastern countries like China It is said to be written by Lao Tzu somewhere around 206­ 220 A.D. during the Hun Dynasty The Tao Te Ching is basically a composition of 81 short chapters which are represented in the form of a poem There is still some controversy other who wrote the book since “Lao Tzu” means “Old Man” , there is speculation that more then one man wrote it. A lot of similarities coincide with the geographical area (Eastern and Western) There are several different ways they all worship, Islamic cultures pray 5 times a day, Christians pray and worship God daily and attend a church on Sundays (Mainly) and People who follow Taoism meditate and worship the Tao. Going through all the books you will be able to find these similarities in the verses or Suras or Chapters, they cover, mostly, the same subjects, but are just represented differently. This was the main site I used while researching the Western Religions.
