PHL Thursday, February 4th, 2010 K1 Kant’s Epistemology - reason is subservient to something other than itself - the world Three Levels of Complexity: Perceptual - we need to see things in reliable ways, if we did not have this it would be a stream of sensory things - forms of sensibility - the way that sensory awareness is structured at the most basic level - allows for discreetness of: SPACE, TIME - space and time are ±lters placed between me and the world - allow me to perceive what i am taking in with my senses, in a structured manner - spatially, the world is spread out, it does not all come to me at one point, there is distance between things - space is a structuring necessity of perception - if space gives me a world that is spread out, time gives me a world that is strung along Conceptual - Categories of understanding - basic template for ordering our experience - QUANTITY (how much? - three categories: one, many, all), QUALITY (what kind?), RELATION (how do they relate), MODALITY (possibility and necessity)
