Gwynne Dyre: Climate Wars - there will be a scarcity of water, and water will be at a premium - how would this affect Canada? we are relatively well-off in terms of global water resources - we have more lakes in Ontario then entire countries (India), therefore, we are the rich when it comes to water resources - when you look at NA, you would say that the SW segment of this continent will be increasingly stressed and will have used up its water table, with no possibilities of certain types or irrigation - there will be inevitably a movement of populations from the southwest (Mexico) - more international tensions will emerge: why was NAFTA so important? - we shouldn’t discuss why these businesses do so well, but the two crucial things that the Americans wanted, were water and oil (they wanted to make sure that they could gain access to their market) - what did NAFTA do to Mexico? drug wars, failed state rooted in the fact that Southern sections in Mexico had a major production of corn, and the USA made it impossible for these to compete in export with their corn - crises between India and Pakistan because they both rely on the Indus river, which is drying up Military Industrial Complex : the military industrial educational context. .. the universities play a major roll in the complex - this complex eats up the countries money raised by taxes - the world spends 1.5 trillion dollars annually on military, and the US spends more than the rest of the world combined (over 50%) - this is what we mean by MIC - Obama, who is now talking about cutting back on expenditures, he does not bring up the military - the USA is not a nation, but an empire - how much does Canada spend on the military? 20 billion dollars annually - how does Canada spend on the environment? 1 billion dollars annually
