Megan Michels Mr. Skiles COMS 226 01/26/10 Written Assignment #3: Lookism Video #1. Reasoning by analogy: The “Lookism” video featured an analysis and comparison of the affect of looks on the public sphere. Peter Jennings focused on comparing people based on the way that they looked, pairing more attractive people with less attractive people. In multiple examples he analyzed why people were given certain privileges based on the way that they looked. One example of reasoning by analogy is when the two women are interviewed for the same secretarial position. Both women had similar qualifications, although the woman who was considered to be “less attractive” had faster typing skills. They both wore the same exact outfit and were trained to respond to interview questions in a similar fashion. Both women wore a hidden camera on their suit jacket to record the interview in order to see how the employers reacted to each person. The results showed that the more attractive woman was treated
