Jackie Gragnola Mr. Fotinakes English 134-52 November 20, 2008 Essays Are Boring and I Don’t Like Them Just as a football player would put forth more effort into a football game than a soccer game, I didn’t put as much effort into essays. I was a yearbook editor and enjoyed writing and reading these types of interest pieces much more than writing essays. I rarely felt connected to the topics that were assigned for essays, while I was always excited and focused when it came to yearbook stories. Even if the topic was chess, then I was challenged with trying to make a bland topic into something that high school students would want to read. If I find a topic interesting, it is much easier for me to complete the task and the result is more organized, descriptive, and informative. After four years of journalism, I consider myself an experienced Journalist. However, journalism takes a completely different approach from essay writing. It seeks to capture the reader while portraying the facts by finding a strong angle. Journalists must interview numerous
