Bureaucracy and You 2 Federal bureaucracy affects Americans in many ways and regulates the manner in which we live on a daily bases. The average Americans life contains many aspects of federal bureaucratic agencies from the time the alarm clock sounds with music from your favorite radio station (which is regulated by the FCC) to sitting down and enjoying a homemade dinner (in which the food has been approved by the FDA). The complexity and numerous departments established in the federal bureaucracy are difficult to comprehend. Each department is required to meet certain aspects of public and environmental safety. Throughout each department are many branches of agencies that relate to specific issues. The alarm clock goes off at a pre-determined time and plays music from a radio station that is controlled by the FCC. The Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. It was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and operates as an independent U.S. government agency overseen by Congress.” (Federal Communications Commission website, 2011). The purpose is to ensure that radio airways are controlled to provide effective and reasonable quality. An unregulated process would cause garbled and confused communication. Driving to work in an automobile has a variety of issues regulated by federal bureaucratic agencies. One of these is the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The regulation of acceptable pollution that is created by an automobile is monitored regularly in most cities and by automobile manufactures. The EPA is designed to protect Americans from all types of environmental issues and is prevalent in
