This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

Explain the family of origin influences on future family functioning. Explain how your family of origin has influenced you in the following areas: decision making, career choices, and development of future plans. Our family of origin is the family that we are born or adopted into (Langmead, n.d.). It is the people that raise us, and that we spend the most of our time with during childhood (Langmead, n.d.). Every individual’s family of origin is enormously important. Parenting shapes a child’s core beliefs about themselves (Langmead, n.d.). This also means that our families beliefs about what it means to be human and the purpose of life have great influence on what we learn and how we develop (Langmead, n.d.). The beliefs that we develop then inform every decision and choice that we make and the relationships we have (Langmead, n.d.). Beliefs and values are passed down from one generation to another through both conscious and subconscious ways (Langmead, n.d.). From our families of origin, we learn how to communicate, process emotions, and get our needs met (Good Therapy, n.d.). People are all raised differently, and experience different scenarios when they are growing up. This is what makes everyone who they are.
