ABSTRACTThe research paper presents a proposal for conducting a study on whether capital punishment hasa positive impact on the crime rate. Capital punishment has been legalized and illegalized insome countries. Human rights have shown efforts in illegalized the act, but many states haveargued it as the only way to lower the crime rate in the society. Many authors and psychologistshave revealed that capita; punishment has a deterring effect of future offences. This study is vitalas it will provide enough evidence on the importance of capital punishment in a country. Thestudy will also seek to determine if capital punishment should be legalized or illegalizeddepending on the findings of the research. The study will utilize questionnaires, surveys andinterview in its methodology for data collection, which will be analyzed to provide proof on howcapital punishment has a positive impact on the crime rate.

INTRODUCTIONCapital punishment is the act of executing individuals as a punishment for criminalactivities after legal trials. Capital punishment can only be facilitated by state but whenever non-state agencies facilitate they will have committed murder. This form of punishment occurs inserious criminal activities but in some countries, Criminal activities such as treason, rape aretermed as capital crimes. Capital punishment is being practiced in some countries while othershave resolved to abolish this type of punishment. Malaysia has of late announced its interests inscrapping capital punishment (Webb et al., 2020). By 2018, there were 52 countries which wereusing capital punishment. The methods of capital punishment include lethal injection, shooting,electrocuting and cutting of head. In Pakistan, capital punishment is legal and since it’s anIslamic state it has to adhere to the laws. In 2018, the USA had 25 incidences of execution ineight states and the main method which was used was lethal injection.According to AmnestyInternational in 2017, there were approximately 993 cases of execution in 23 countries whichhad marked a drop of 4% as compared to 2016 (Webb et al., 2020). Amnesty recognizes China asthe leading nation in capital punishment although it reveals it has no enough evidence for that(Webb et al., 2020). There are some states which are still practicing capital punishment in theUnited States while others have refrained from this act. In the United States, around 3000 peopleare in death row in the USA. The United Kingdom recorded the last cases of capital punishmentin 1964 and since then this act has been abolished. Capital punishment is vital in deterring
