Brett, You hit the nail on the head with your response. The true problem is employee perspective, attitude, and motivation. Many of the employees are undereducated and do not realize how crucial their behavior is to company success. We had a meeting on Wednesday with the VP of our division. He is a no-nonsense straight to the point type of person. One of his first responses was, “raise your hand if you are unhappy with your job”. The next response was “if you are unhappy with you job, I will pull some strings and get you a job with our biggest competitor” (name omitted). These statements offended many of the employees. I felt the VP was simply saying hey guys we have it good compared to most. One of his famous statements that he consistently repeats is

The company has been great to the employees and has yet to lay anyone off. Our volume decreased from 186 million pounds of wire a year to 97 million in 2009. The company has been in business over 60 years and is the leader in the wire industry. I feel fortunate to be employed by such a reliable, stable, and committed organization. Our organization is spending millions and buying failing companies to secure their position in the market.
