What would you need to learn or know about each of your clients in order to communicate effectively with them? In order to communicate effectively with a client you need to be an attentive listener. According to the textbook, it is through listening that the helper begins to learn about the client and how the client sees the world and himself or herself. It is important to listen carefully to what the client has to say and to all the messages the client is giving about matters on how a client may view his or her problems that they might be having and what it is the client wants the worker to do about them. Being an attentive listener also involves giving feedback on what is being said, along with recognizing the feelings underneath of what is being said. When you actually hear the person, understand the situation and the feelings of the client, then you are in a position to take constructive action or to
