The following guidanc e describe s compon ents of the 2011 Nutrition Service s Plan (NSP) and provides directions for completing the plan. All seg m e nts should reflect service s for your total agency (all clinics in one plan). The Nutrition Service s Plan is a continuous proce s s of asse s s m e nt, implem e nting strategies, and evaluating results. The Nutrition Service s Plan Proce s s is shown graphically below. It is important that agencie s take time regularly to asse s s their needs and work toward improve m e nt. The Nutrition Service s Plan provides one tool to accomplish this task. Assessment Identify Needs Choose Focus of Change Design Strategies Identify Community Partners Evaluate Change Nutrition Services Plan Process 3 Beginning in 2008, Local Agencies were introduced to the Keys to Excellenc e conc ept as part of the Value Enhanc ed Nutrition Asse s s m e nt (VENA) training. The Keys to Excellenc e program expands the comp etencie s of VENA to include portions of the Nutrition Service s Standards and aspects of the Nutrition Education Policy Guidanc e. Keys to Excellenc e will emphasize many of the compon ents of the USDA initiative to Revitalize Quality Nutrition Service s. Excellenc e in WIC must enco mp a s s all areas of WIC services, not just nutrition education. As we move toward implem e ntation of the Keys to Excellenc e philosophy, we will be asking Local Agencie s to asse s s their progres s in a number of key areas.
