In this essay I will talk about the Woman, Children, and Infants program (WIC). I will describe the current laws and government regulations or standards and what king of impact these laws and regulations have on the WIC program. I will identify the obstacles that can prevent the needs being met for such clients. Also, I will be considering future trends and changes to social policy that may be necessary in order for such issue to be resolved or for clients to have their needs satisfied. The current laws and government regulations or standards for the Women, Children, and Infants program shall serve as an addition to good health care during critical times of growth and development, in order to prevent the occurrence of health problems, including drug and other harmful substance abuse, and to improve the health status of these persons. The program shall be supplementary to the Food Stamp Program; any program under which foods are distributed to needy families in lieu of food stamps; and receipt of food or meals from soup kitchens, or shelters, or other forms of emergency food assistance (FNS, USDA 2011). The US government's Office on Women's Health identifies the major benefits of breastfeeding for the infant in terms of nutrition and growth benefits

and also increased immune systems and resistance to infection, and also describes the health benefits for the mother.
