Early Limb Development Critical period is 24-36 days after fertilization limb buds appear during week 4 upper limbs begin first, lower limbs 2 days later Distal ends are flattened (flippers) digital rays form week 6 in hand; 7 in feet mesenchyme between rays die off (apoptosis)
