Gross Lab Notes Back Muscles Superficial: 1. Trapezius- superior 2. Latissimus Dorsi- inferior Trapezius Action: Elevates, retracts, depresses, and rotates the scapula Origin: Occipital bone, nuchal ligament, spinous process of C7-T12 vertebrae Insertion: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion, spine of the scapula Nerve Supply: Motor- C11, Spinal Accesory Sensory- Ventral Rami of Spinal Nerve C3 and C4 Latissimus Dorsi: Action: Extends, adducts, and medially rotates the humerus Origin: thoracolumbar fascia, spinous process of T7 vertebra to sacrum, , iliac crest, ribs 10-12 Insertion: floor of Intertubercular groove of the humerus Nerve Supply: Thoracolumbar Nerve/ Middle Subscapular Nerve/Nerve to Latissimus Dorsi Deep to Trapezius (3 parts) 1. Levator Scapulae (Top ) Attach to 2. Rhomboidus Minor (Middle) medial border of 3. Rhomboidus Major (below) the Scapula Nerve Supply: Dorsal Scapular Nerve- C5 root Brachial Plexus: Ventral rami of C5, 6, 7, 8 and T1 Deep to Rhomboidus: 1. Serratus Posterior Superior 2. Serratus Posterior Inferior Nerve Supply: Dorsal Rami of Spinal Nerve Deepest: Erector Spinae (3 parts) 1. Spinalis (medial) 3 parts - Thoracis (lower) - Cervicis (middle) - Capitis (upper)
