When I was in school I would see stratification on a daily basis, even if others did not recognize it, and I have come to the conclusion that stratification is worldwide. Nevertheless, would people attend college for several years to become doctors if they could make as much money and gain as much respect working as custodians or something along those lines? Unformatted text preview: in regard to the work force, salaries and wages are based on the importance of a position and the relative scarcity of qualified personnel, nevertheless that principle only helps those in the higher level jobs, while devaluing the work performed by certain segments of society, such as women who work in the home or the lower status work in places such as fast food restaurants.
