Kauwell, PhD, RD, LDN & Anne Mathews, PhD, RD HUN 4446 - Fall 2011 Diseases of the Gallbladder • Compare normal gallbladder structure and function to the changes that occur in gallbladder disease. • Describe the etiology, symptoms, clinical findings and pathophysiology associated with gallbladder disease Objectives disease. • Describe the diagnostic tests/procedures and intervention strategies (i.e., medical, surgical, pharmacologic, nutritional) used to treat/manage gallbladder disease. • Differentiate among conditions associated with gallbladder disease based on etiology, laboratory data, diagnostic tests, pathophysiology and management. • Relate the signs, symptoms, clinical findings, laboratory data, diagnostic tests, and medical, surgical, pharmacologic and nutritional interventions to the underlying pathophysiology of gallbladder disease. • Interpret the results of laboratory/diagnostic Objectives Interpret the results of laboratory/diagnostic tests. • Recommend appropriate nutritional management for patients with gallbladder disease based on information presented in case studies. • Select appropriate medical, pharmacologic and/or surgical interventions for patients with diseases/disorders of the gallbladder based on information presented in case studies.
