Unformatted text preview: September 18, 2008 Computer Lab for EFA in Mplus and CFA in AMOS (demo versions of Mplus and AMOS) Goals for todays lab 1. To run an EFA on 6 of the genetic testing variables. 2. To use AMOS to perform a CFA using the variables C9, C11, C14, C8, C18, C19 from the genetic testing concerns data Premlimiary Steps If you havent already create a folder called PH7435 to keep all of your work in. Download the genetictestingrawdata.xls (an Excel file) from the course data webpage http://www.biostat.umn.edu/~melanie/PH7435/DATA/index.html and put it in your PH7435 folder Mplus can only read in simple text files (i.e. things that look normal when opened up in a simple text editor like Notepad). It cant read Excel (.xls) files or other database file types). The simplest way to convert the Excel file to a simple text file is to open it in Excel and then do a Save as and request filetype to be a CSV (Comma delimited) (.csv) file. Excel will give you some warnings that can be ignored. Mplus can only read in numeric data, it cannot read in anything of character type including variable names. This means it is necessary to delete the first ROW of the genetictestingrawdata.csv file before being able to read it into Mplus. Delete the first row with variable names in it and resave the file as a .csv. EFA 1. Open Mplus. 2. In the preliminary steps we prepared a comma delimited file called genetictesting.csv that can be read into Mplus. It is important that the order of the variable names as listed in the program match the order of the columns of variables in the dataset. Type in (or cut and paste) the following program appropriately changing the path to the datafile to match where you put it on your computer. data: file is C:\Documents and Settings\Melanie\Desktop\PH7435\genetictestingrawdata.csv; variable: names are C1-C20 age race marital educlevl insured;...
