Social Systems • Caste—comes from India where prior to World War II there were 4 basic categories with many sub-categories • People had to keep a physical distance from each other • People were ranked over characteristics they had no control over – Lower castes were seen as innately inferior – Higher castes felt superior – It was a situation that was absolute and never doubted – Social restrictions were severe
