Unformatted text preview: Using a potter’s wheel to make something out of clay. What is throwing? This is a liquid substance that you put on clay when attaching two or more clay pieces together. What is slip? This substance is made of fine-grained minerals, is found in the ground, and hardens when dried or fired in a kiln. What is clay? This substance is made of finely ground minerals. Sometimes this substance is put on a ceramics piece and then fired in a kiln. After it comes out of the kiln this substance turns shiny, waterproof, and glass-like. What is glaze? This is what you get when you roll out a flat “pancake” of clay with a rolling pin. What slab of clay?
