2 What does the term “gospel” mean? Gospel literally means “good news” Used to translate the Greek euangellion Broad Restoration use : the sum total of the principles and ordinances that bring the effects of the Atonement into our lives 4 th article of faith For this class, we will define “gospel” as the salvation event in its setting .

3 The Salvation Event In the Book of Mormon, Nephi was symbolically shown the salvation event through a vision of the Tree of Life What does the tree represent? 4 The Condescension of God In order to understand who Jesus was prior to his birth, we go to the Old Testament Ex. 34:5-7 Significance of Names Yeshua In order to understand how Jesus became our Savior, we must go back even further Rev 5:1-10; 13:8 What are the implications of these verses?

5 Why We Need Salvation Now that we know who Jesus is and how he became the Savior, we must investigate why we need salvation 2 Nephi 2:15 Two trees in opposition—What did Adam and Eve decide? Consequences? (2:19-25) Because we are fallen, we lose access to the Tree of Life What keeps us from accessing the tree? Now we need help to get past the cherubim This is where Jesus Christ comes in (2:26) How does he get us past the cherubim to the tree? Alma 5: 62
