First name, last name English 1310 Monday November 5, 2007 Noll Understanding our Idiot Nation Many would say that reading and comprehending information such as literary material and the news is very important, but how many people actually bother to do either? These skills are absolutely vital to have in American society. Michael Moore is concerned with the state of American society and their willingness to remain mediocre. He thinks that Americans do not apply themselves to concepts that actually matter in our society. Although reading and comprehension is needed, not as many people have these skills because they are not emphasized as much. Television and internet clips have severely lessened the need to read and assimilate information. Being able to read and comprehend information is essential to function in American Society. Being able to read is a critical skill to have in American society. Even though reading is not emphasized as much as it should be because of growing technology, it is still needed. Reading is needed because it is the base for understanding any word that is written down.
