Everyone should receive equal treatment or punishment for the things that they do. They should also be held responsible for their actions; however, celebrities receive different types of punishment when they commit crimes than ordinary people do. For example, Paris Hilton was arrested for violating her probation and received forty-five days in prison. After being sentenced, she was given two weeks to go home and “compose” herself before she actually had to go to jail. She served only twenty-one of the original forty-five days and was given probation again and a $1500 fine. According to the website www.nationalledger.com, which analyzes news, popular culture, and politics: “We've all heard the stories. The financially elite, politicians and celebrities getting special treatment from the legal system. Either they've got connections or have enough money to buy connections that allow them to receive a slap on the wrist when the rest of us would get a broken arm.” We are not all equal and social class is a big indicator of this.
