I recently attended the play “The Importance of Being Earnest” on Saturday, October 6 th . This program was held at the Texas State University Theatre Center. The play was originally written by Oscar Wilde and performed on Feburary 14, 1895 at the St. James Theatre in London. The main character in the play is a man named John (Jack) Worthing. Jack has a best friend by the name of Algernon Moncrieff. Algernon is a young aristocrat from London. Algernon has a cousin named Gwendolen Fairfax, whom Jack is in love with. Jack creates this imaginary character named Ernest, and he tells everyone that Ernest is his brother and he lives in the city (London). Jack often lies to Gwendolen by telling her that his name is Ernest. So every time that Jack wants to get away from the country or go visit Gwendolen, he says that he is going to see his trouble-making brother Ernest. Jack has a ward that he takes care of by the name of Cecily Cardew. Cecily is a young woman who is only 18 years of age. When Jack begins to describe
