What this was, was a strategyto increase support for the Republican Party amongst white people in the South. Racism was stillhuge in this time period in the southern states, so he made this plan to appeal racism against African Americans towards all those states. Nixon thought that if he was the most likable candidate in every category, he would be able to come back from losing the South’s population of white voters, but the support for George Wallace blew him out of the water. Wallace was a very bold, but people supported him, and he obtained the support of the people that were in the poor or hard-working middle class.Richard Nixon used a different version of the “Southern Strategy”. Reporters and fun of and mocked this strategy stating that it was used to “woo disgruntled whites in the Old Confederacy”.
