HUN2201 – Sample Calculations for PROTEIN section Practice with conversions: you need to know how to convert cups to milliliters, fluid ounces to milliliters, pounds to kilograms, ounces to grams, and inches to centimeters. Practice conversions can be found in a document posted in the Lipids folder on e-Learning. Know the AMDR for protein (% of energy intake). Be able to use these numbers in calculations related to sample food intake. 1. A person consumes 350 grams of CHO, 100 g of fat and 80 grams of protein. Calculate the percent of energy coming from fat and protein and compare their intake to the AMDRs for total fat and protein. 350 g CHO 4 kcal/g = 1400 kcal 1400 kcal 2620 kcal 100 = 53% 100 g fat 9 kcal/g = 900 kcal 900 kcal 2620 kcal 100 = 34% 80 g prot 4 kcal/g = 320 kcal 320 2620 kcal 100 = 12% total = 2620 kcal fat and protein intake are within the AMDRs 2.
