AREC 345: Global Poverty Problem Set #3 Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics University of Maryland, College Park Fall 2011 Problem Set #3 is due at the start of class on Monday, November 21. Problem sets must be handed in as hard copies. Those received after 11:10 AM on November 21 will be marked as one day late. You may work in groups on the problem set, but you must write up your answers independently. Students turning in identical answers will be penalized. You are a consultant helping the government of Impactistan to design a program intended to increase school performance among children living in informal settlements (slums). The Minister of Education is considering giving out free textbooks to children living in the slums. He presents you with a data set, arec345ps3data.csv , which includes information about the test scores of a random sample of 100 children living in Impactistan’s slums. The data set contains the following variables: id: a unique ID number for each child in the data set
